Essex Oyster Company seafood restaurant is located equidistant between Basildon and Southend in Essex, adjacent to London. As owners, we have a real passion, and a great wealth of experience, in sourcing the finest and freshest sustainable Shellfish, Oysters and Fish. Our ingredients are sourced from across the UK, Ireland and France. Our great depth of experience comes from both owning and running Shellfish stalls in both Hackney, in East London, and Islington, in North London, during the eighties. Way back then we delivered seafood and shellfish to all of the most well known East End pubs, early on a Sunday morning. Back then you were guaranteed a good old knees up on a sunny Sunday afternoon with a live singer and fresh seafood, shellfish & baked potatoes often decorating the bar! Happy memories indeed, and an atmosphere that we always strive to keep alive in our Essex seafood restaurant.

Essex Oyster Company Seafood and Shellfish restaurant – where it all started

We opened our seafood shop at our current location in Bowers Gifford, Essex in 2020, and then, due to demand, opened our new seafood restaurant in 2023. All of our fresh seafood is available in our restaurant either to eat in or take away. Our menus naturally change with the seasons and are prepared by our passionate and talented chefs. Our chefs have a wealth of culinary experience obtained over many years working in some of the finest fish restaurants in both London and Essex, such as Scott’s of Mayfair in London, J Sheekey’s of London, Smiths of Ongar, and Alecs Restaurant in Essex. We source and use only the finest ingredients. Our meat, vegetables and dairy produce are all sourced from British farmers.

Fresh Lobsters always available

We supply freshly cooked or live Lobsters from our very own fresh lobster tanks. They are stored in temperature-controlled natural seawater, which is continually sterilised & filtered and regularly refilled with fresh seawater. This seawater is delivered directly to our seafood and shellfish restaurant right here in Essex, on a weekly basis from Cornwall. In this way, you can be assured that we use only the very freshest of seafood.

An intimate seafood dinner for two or larger parties?

Whether you want to book with us for an intimate romantic meal for two or want to celebrate that special family occasion, we would be pleased to help. We can easily cater for larger parties too, with specially prepared buffet style food available. We are available 7 days a week if required for parties, wakes and other celebrations. Just ask and we will be pleased to assist you.
